Judges to Celebrate the Un-Dead
2011 ICE Awards Judges Announced
Halifax, NS: The ICE Awards, which celebrates excellence in Atlantic Canadian advertising, has released a jury list packed with senior-level talent. This year’s jury will decide what work will be killed and what will survive and then celebrated as the creative un-dead of advertising in the region.
Leading this year's judging panel is Michael Murray, Creative Director at Crispin, Porter & Bogusky. His fellow judges include:
- Joel Pylypiw, Art Director, Red Urban
- Dre Labre, Creative Director, Rethink
- Michael Clowater, Associate Creative Director, BBDO
- Jamie Webster, Director, Common Good
- Nellie Kim, Associate Creative Director, john st.
“It’s hard to win awards. Ninety-five per cent of your work usually dies” said Murray. “The ICE Awards are a way of rewarding hard work and fresh thinking and are one of the awards I’ve wanted to judge. I believe I’ll see amazing work and ideas I’ll wish were mine. I want to feel jealous of the ideas.”
The panel will gather in St. John’s from September 15th to 17th to assess which entries will become this year’s undead in advertising. This marks the third consecutive year ICE judging has moved outside the award’s host city of Halifax, a move designed to broaden the event’s appeal throughout the region. A meet and greet and a panel discussion with the jury will be held on Thursday evening, September 15th, moderated by Ignacio Oreamuno of ihaveanidea.org.
“We wanted judges with great credentials - fresh, young and very talented. We also wanted nice human beings on the jury,” said Jenny Smith, 2011 ICE Judging Chair and Creative Group Head with Target, handling the Judges' Weekend for the awards. “We’ve chosen these judges from outside Atlantic Canada so there’s no bias or baggage. Great work can come from anywhere. I'm hoping they'll all agree."
This year’s award co-chairs are Shawn King, partner and Chief Creative Officer of Extreme Group, and Jason Eisener, Dartmouth producer, director and movie maker. The co-chairs are planning to bring a mix of advertising and moviemaking creativity to the tenth anniversary of the awards.
